What information will I receive about Parent & Family Weekend prior to our visit to Georgetown University?

A save the date postcard will be sent to parents of first-year students, sophomores, and transfers in mid-August. All other information will be provided online. Check back here for schedule updates.

Once you arrive on campus for the weekend, you will receive a packet of information at check in, which will include a detailed schedule, campus map, and informational flyers about campus activities taking place while you're here.

If you have any questions prior to your arrival, please email the Office of Orientation, Transition and Family Engagement at family@georgetown.edu.

Are family members and guests welcome at all events?

Yes! Family members and guests are welcome at all events. Please note: They must be accounted for in your registration (which is up to 5 people, not including your student).

When is the best time to arrive for the weekend? When should we plan to depart?

Parent and Family Weekend begins on Friday, October 14. If your schedule allows, we suggest that you arrive on campus by early Friday afternoon to be able to fully participate in the dean's reception, which starts at 5:30 p.m., and other on-campus activities. Parent and Family Weekend registered events officially conclude on Sunday, October 16, with brunch at 10:30 a.m. Worship services, events, and performances will take place later that morning and that afternoon, so you may wish to remain in town through the end of the day. However, many families plan to leave in the late morning or early afternoon.

What is the dress code for Parent & Family Weekend?

We see many styles of dress ranging from casual to business attire. Business casual is recommended for receptions and evening trips in DC. Casual attire is appropriate for most other events. We recommend that you dress in layers though, since Washington DC temperatures in the fall as well as in our buildings may vary. Make sure to pack an umbrella and comfortable walking shoes too!

Is there a Parent & Family Weekend for junior and senior students?

Parent & Family Weekend is specifically for first-year, sophomore, and transfer students and their families. Because so many of our juniors study abroad, there is not a dedicated parents weekend for juniors and their families.

Seniors' families are invited to campus in late January/ early February for a special Senior Parents Weekend. These dates will be posted on the Georgetown Senior Class Committee website in the coming months.
