Frequently Asked Questions

An announcement will be sent to parents of first-year, sophomore and transfer students via mail in early September. All other information will be provided online and/or sent via email. Check back here for Family Weekend updates, including the final Schedule of Events.

Once you arrive on campus for the weekend, you will need to check in at the designated check-in location to receive the Family Weekend program book and swag. If you have any questions prior to your arrival, please reference this site and your emails. If you have any additional questions, please contact us via email at familyweekend@georgetown.edu.

Registered family members and guests are welcome at all events. The registration cost for Family Weekend covers the student and up to five family members. Please note that, based on public health guidelines at the time of Family Weekend, we may need to limit attendance at specific events. However, we will communicate any such changes to ticket holders right away.

Family Weekend begins on Friday, October 13, 2023. If your schedule allows, we suggest that you arrive on campus by early Friday afternoon to be able to fully participate in the various on-campus activities, including office open houses and department or program presentations, throughout the afternoon followed by the deans’ receptions which begin at 5:00 pm. Family Weekend-sponsored events officially conclude at 12:00 pm on Sunday, October 15, 2023, after Coffee and Doughnuts. However, various worship services, campus events, and/or performances may take place later that afternoon so you may wish to remain in town through the end of the day.

We see many styles of dress ranging from casual to business attire. Business casual is recommended for the deans’ receptions, but casual attire is appropriate for most other events. We recommend that you dress in layers as temperatures may vary outdoors and inside buildings on campus. Be sure to pack an umbrella and comfortable walking shoes too!

Tickets are non-refundable.

We will be monitoring the public health situation closely and will keep our website up-to-date with any changes. If any individual events transition to a virtual platform, we will update ticket holders as soon as possible.

In the unlikely event that we must cancel the in-person Family Weekend events, we will automatically refund all ticket holders in full. However, we are unable to refund families for any plane tickets, hotel bookings, or other costs associated with their Family Weekend attendance. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to book refundable tickets wherever possible.

If you find an item, please bring it to the Family Weekend Help Desk, located at Check-In and Registration (Friday from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm and Saturday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm). If you are looking for an item, please check there. If it is not there or Check-In and Registration has closed, please check the Georgetown University Police Department’s Lost and Found.
