Frequently Asked Questions

An announcement will be sent to parents of first-year, sophomore and transfer students via mail in early September. All other information will be provided online and/or sent via email. Check back here for Family Weekend updates, including the final Schedule of Events.

Once you arrive on campus for the weekend, you will need to check in at the designated check-in location to receive the Family Weekend program book and swag. If you have any questions prior to your arrival, please reference this site and your emails. If you have any additional questions, please contact us via email at familyweekend@georgetown.edu.

Registered family members and guests are welcome at all events. The registration cost for Family Weekend covers the student and up to five family members. Please note that, based on public health guidelines at the time of Family Weekend, we may need to limit attendance at specific events. However, we will communicate any such changes to ticket holders right away.

Family Weekend begins on Friday, October 14, 2022. If your schedule allows, we suggest that you arrive on campus by early Friday afternoon to be able to fully participate in the various on-campus activities, including office open houses and department or program presentations, throughout the afternoon followed by the deans’ receptions which begin at 5:00 pm. Family Weekend-sponsored events officially conclude at 12:00 pm on Sunday, October 16, 2022, after Coffee and Doughnuts. However, various worship services, campus events, and/or performances may take place later that afternoon so you may wish to remain in town through the end of the day.

We see many styles of dress ranging from casual to business attire. Business casual is recommended for the deans’ receptions, but casual attire is appropriate for most other events. We recommend that you dress in layers as temperatures may vary outdoors and inside buildings on campus. Be sure to pack an umbrella and comfortable walking shoes too!

COVID-19 is a serious disease, resulting potentially in illness, hospitalization, and even death. Our first priority is the health and safety of our community. You can learn more about the university’s approach to COVID-19 safety through the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Resource Center webpage.

In the spirit of cura personalis, the university requires that event participants follow certain health and safety measures, which may vary depending on the nature of the event, in order to help protect the health and safety of all participants. While the university is taking steps to mitigate the risks to event participants, the university cannot guarantee a COVID-19 free environment or eliminate the chance of infection and the health risks associated with it. By participating in this event, you assume the risks involved. You may also be required to leave the event if you fail to follow the required health and safety measures.

All attendees for Family Weekend must be up to date on their COVID-19 vaccination (i.e., a primary series and, when eligible, an additional dose) or have a religious or medical exemption. Attendees who are not vaccinated but have an exemption must take a COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours prior to the event to ensure that they have a negative test result. If any member of your party has symptoms of COVD-19 or has been exposed to COVID-19 recently, please help us keep the community safe by staying home instead of coming to campus for Family Weekend.

In addition, please note the following:

  • Indoor masking will be required for all indoor seated events (e.g. in auditoriums, classrooms, and similarly-sized spaces) but will be optional for all outdoor events or standing receptions.
  • If you are travelling from outside of Washington D.C., Maryland, or Virginia, you must abide by Washington D.C.’s testing requirements for visitors.

We will be monitoring the public health situation closely and will keep our website up-to-date with any changes. If any individual events transition to a virtual platform, we will update ticket holders as soon as possible.

In the unlikely event that we must cancel the in-person Family Weekend events, we will automatically refund all ticket holders in full. However, we are unable to refund families for any plane tickets, hotel bookings, or other costs associated with their Family Weekend attendance. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to book refundable tickets wherever possible.

If you find an item, please bring it to the Family Weekend Help Desk, located at Check-In and Registration (Friday from 12:00 pm to 5:00 and Saturday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm). If you are looking for an item, please check there. If it is not there or Check-In and Registration has closed, please check the Georgetown University Police Department’s Lost and Found.
